Alfredo Ramos Martinez (November 12, 1871- November 8, 1946)

The Father of Mexican Modernism, but before hailed for the title he travelled and experienced a very wonderful and a long journey that made him won this title. Alfredo showed his exemplary talents in the field of painting, portrait paintings, custom oil paintings, rufino tamayo oil painting, yue minjun oil painting, murals, fresco, watercolour and many more. But most of all he was known to have the great love for Impressionism and Modernism. And, Alfredo believed that a true artist in training should never be trapped in the four corners of the classroom but rather let them be outside of it and appreciate the beauty of the nature and the real world. He was known for his great interpretations to various scenes, objects and poems. Today, he was known as ¿The Ramos Martinez ¿

As a kid, he was expected to be a successful merchant like his father but rather he showed an amazing talent in painting. He loved portrait painting and custom oil painting. With his watercolour and inert talent he won many competitions. And his very first achievement was when he was 14 years old. And as a part of this achievement was a scholarship grant to study in the most respected and highly appraised art school in Mexico, the Academia Nacional de Bellas Artes (Academy of Fine Arts).

But then dissatisfied with the teachings of the school and with his great interest on European arts, the Impressionism and Post ¿ Impressionism, he decided that he needed to explore Europe. The two previous style was Alfredo Ramos Martinez fingerprint. He was known not only as a Modernist but also an Impressionist. And this move defined his career and his works. He left Mexico and moved to Paris with the help of Phoebe Hearst. With the help of Hearst, he lived a comfortable life in Paris. While in Paris he met different and many prominent people who showed great interests in the arts. And one of them was Dario, his good friend. Who, in many times his companion to creative ideas and exploration to the great cities where great artists ¿ works were. After a year in Paris, Ramos Martinez harvested his great acknowledgement, a Gold Medal for his Le Printemps painting. With this achievement, Hearst decided to cut his financial support to Ramos Martinez.

And then Ramos Martinez return to Mexico, when he returned he was appointed as the Director of the Fine Arts Academy and he redefined the teachings of the school. He then opened his Open Air School, fulfilling his advocacy.

One of his works on 1938 called, The Flowers of Mexico sold 4 million USD in 2007.
